Mimir Young Artists, 1998-2008 (.pdf)
The Mimir Chamber Music Festival offers aspiring young artists a unique opportunity to enhance their skills through the intensive study of chamber music with some of the world’s leading concert artists. Each year, 20 pre-professional stringed instrumentalists and pianists are selected to participate in the two-week Festival, hosted on the campus of TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
From the moment the Mimir Young Artists arrive, each day is packed with coaching, rehearsals, Master Classes and concerts. In recent years, tuition for Mimir Young Artists has been fully underwritten by our generous sponsors.
The Mimir Festival Young Artists program is open to applicants ages 16 and up worldwide. Young Artists are selected for participation through live or recorded auditions. Live audition sites in 2009 include include Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, San Diego, Dallas, along with host city Fort Worth. Audition sites for next year will be announced in Fall 2009.
Young Artists selected over the years include high school and young pre professional musicians, as well as college music majors from the country’s leading music institutions such the Indiana University, University of Southern California, Manhattan, Eastman, Rice University, Cleveland Institute, Oberlin and Texas Christian University schools of music.
Young Artists are placed in two chamber ensembles, each of which receives intensive daily coaching by our Mimir Guest Artists. Repertoire is assigned and mailed to participants several weeks before the Festival, allowing time for Young Artists to prepare individual parts and study the most advanced literature. Once a Young Artist arrives, coaching and rehearsals begin the first day.
The Mimir Chamber Music Festival also includes three public Master Classes and two public performances by the Mimir Young Artists. In addition, Young Artists have the opportunity to observe and assist with five exciting evening concerts given by the Mimir Guest Artists over the course of the Festival.
